Ashwath hails from a family deeply rooted in Carnatic music. His first guru was Smt. Jayalakshmi Sundararajan, with whom he trained for two years. In 1998, he began learning from Sangeetha Kalanidhi Palghat Sri KV Narayanaswamy, a Carnatic music maestro, receiving rigorous training until 2002.
